Polycarp was a 2nd-century Christian bishop of Smyrna and likely the last surviving person to have known an apostle, having been a disciple of John. His Letter to the Philippians was a significant foundation of early Christian literature, establishing the role of Apostle Paul and referencing the existence of other texts of the New Testament. He is also the first recorded martyr in history outside of the New Testament. Let’s look back on his life and death on this episode of the Hugs From Heaven podcast.
