Christian History: William Carey

William Carey, the “father of modern missions,” wanted to translate the Bible into as many Indian languages as possible. And that’s what he did, but not without facing adversity. On March 12, 1812, a fire destroyed years of work, notes, and translations. But you’ll learn on this episode of Hugs From Heaven, Carey can teach us a thing or two about never giving up.

Instant Takeaways

  1. The secret of William Carey’s success was his resiliency. He worked for years and all of it was destroyed in a fire. Still, Carey took little time to mourn and his enterprise was rebuilt and enlarged.
  2. We often suffer, but we are never crushed. That’s what the apostle Paul teaches us in Corinthians 4:8, going on to say, “Even when we don’t know what to do, we never give up. In times of trouble, God is with us.”
